just a regular day in la paz

Last call of the day.... I started my rotation en infectologia.. muy triste. Kids with TB, AIdS, meningitis, leishmanisis, and the list goes on. It is definitely a different medicine world here. I would call it vintage style. Vintage is cool. I have been learning a lot. It's pretty cool because thanks to the medical "latin" terms I can somewhat follow along. We have vistitas (rounds) at 9 and then we learn some stuff, yesterday I reviewed historia clinicas de pacientes escriben los estudiantes de medicina. Today we reviewed chest xrays and nutritional status of of some of the sick kids. Also, one of the students is learning english and he has been helping me mucho. He translated 5 charts and we discussed terms (english and spanish). We usually get released at 11 or noon. So diferrent from home. Everyone takes a 2.5 hour lunch and most people go home for a home cooked meal. Mi amigo Andy, then showed me where to get some medical books... I can't believe how affordable they are. I will probably come home with 3 or 4. Netters anatomy, red book, and harriet lane... Well, it was a good day. I learned lots, especially spanish. I have 3 hours of dpanish each day, except lunes. That day, Dra. Uribe gives us a lecture, this week we covered leishmanisis. Its alllll in spanish and it was pretty awesome because I understood a LOT compared to last week. So, I'm going to head out. Im sitting in an awesome cafe called chocolate caliente. A dude with dreads serves you and they play a lot of reggae. Its super cool. Well, im going for now. Have a good night! Love you all! Matt, baby.... ur hot and u llove U
